Running Goals for 2019

Monday MilesFor the first installment of Monday Miles, I’m taking a hard look at what I want to do in my running shoes for 2019.  2018 wasn’t the best year for running. I was injured and overweight for most of it and I didn’t have the most fun.

I’m 14 days into 2019 and it’s already better than last year. I’m running a little most days and staying consistent on the treadmill. I’m not worried about times or paces. I’m just taking some enjoyment in feeling my feet moving.

For races this year, I want to do as many Rock’n’Roll races because they are so much fun and they have the best courses and crowd support. I’m going to apply for Ambassador again when the applications open up. Due to my lackluster 2018, I’ll be incredibly honored to be accepted. But, that’s my own fault and all I can do it work that much harder this year.

If I’m being completely honest, I would LOVE to run with Rock’n’Roll in Las Vegas. This is the only race in which Vegas shuts down the Strip, at night, for runners with this race. I am going to miss out on the Go Wild trip to Vegas in May, so I would love to plan for November in Vegas.

In June, we will be camping our way through Colorado so I’ll check dates for possible races out there. It has been a few years so I really hope I can get the dates to match up.

One thing that has been on my mind is getting back into some local Tusaloosa races. I had my first start with running and racing in this town and I feel this strong need to get back to my running roots. I’m pulling up old playlists, digging out some old race shirts. I’m looking through old race reports. I just feel this urge for nostalgic “remember how good I felt” running memories. The local races were the foundation of those memories.

So all these lofty goals means training for all the miles starts TOMORROW!

Thanks for reading! See you on the roads and trails.
