The 2014 Dirty Dozen

dirty dozen

A few years ago, I wrote a post talking about the current “Dirty Dozen” which is the top 12 fruits and vegetables with the most pesticide residue. A lot of people have an interest in choosing pesticide-free organic foods, but cannot afford to switch to 100% organic or they do not have an organic source of produce. With the dirty dozen, consumers can prioritize which items to choose as pesticide free/organic if they wanted that option. There is now a 2014 ranking of those 12 fruits and vegetables with the most pesticide residue. How have things changed?

Not much. Apples are still the worst offenders. And since we do eat the peels, it helps to know these are highly susceptible to residue. Wash those apple thoroughly before eating!
