These Saturdays do not come along every week. It was absolutely perfect weather. And perfect weather means a road trip to Birmingham.
First stop, Pepper Place Farmers Market. We got there just as the sun was warming things up and I believe there were more dogs than people! But there were a ton of stalls still open with the last of summer harvest. And pumpkins!!
I came home with broccoli, butternut squash, red kale, squash, zucchini, pattypan squash, sausage, and a jar of salsa. I have a few ideas in mind for this week.
And no trip to Birmingham is complete without a Whole Foods run.
And more pumpkins!
We wondered how much the huge pumpkins would go for. I doubt the “3 for $13” included those huge ones.
I wanted to get some of these, but October is still a few days away and I want good pumpkins for Halloween.
These look like Black-Eyed Susans turned inside out.
This area is where they hide the cupcakes. I didn’t get any but I will one day.
After a long frustrating search for pumpkin hard cider, we had another discussion about where to go for lunch. I was irritated at not finding the cider and was on the verge of a huge pity part so thinking about the options for eating out was exhausting. He was open to eating ANYTHING. Finally I decided to do the hot bar and I would settle for “another salad….I’m so tired of salads when eating out!!!!”.
Does this look like a plain ol’ salad? Of course not. We were at the Taj Mahal of hot bars. This is butternut squash, olives, Spanish potato salad, and marinated grilled vegetables complete with a deviled egg. The greens were just as good as always.
As I was devouring my plain salad, Stephen handed me a fork of something and said to try it. I don’t like my greens soaked in sloppy dressing and that was exactly what he gave to me. I tried it and it was so good! I went back to get the ingredient list and then immediately googled the gluten content of nutritional yeast (It’s GF!!). I will make this again soon. It was REALLY good.
Their version of pumpkin spice latte. And it was exceptionally good.
After this gorgeous fall morning, we rushed back home to get ready for the Alabama game. I hope we get win #4! The Road to 15 (national championships) has begun!
