Day 6-Dillon, Breckenridge and Fish Tacos….worth a separate post.

Today is all about Fish Tacos. I’ve never had these. I’ve turned my nose up to them when I would hear about them. That just sounded nasty to me. But then I had to take a step back and really think about my frame of reference for “tacos”. Taco Bell does not present the best culinary example of tacos. Sure, they’re good (not NEAR as good as Taco Casa, a local favorite in my neck of the woods), but there’s not much to brag about. Fast food tacos are not the same as good fresh homemade tacos. I’m a believer now and plan to experiment more with my own tacos. I may join the ranks of people who actually have taco nights! I’m talking crazy now, aren’t I? 😉

When we passed through Frisco, where I ran the 10K last year, we found this place called Silverheels. Again, the recommendation of the hotel was perfect. The night air was cool and the live Indie music was not overwhelming at all. I almost ordered an Asian Chicken salad but then I read the description of the Fish Tacos.

Fresh haddock, cilantro, cheddar and jack cheese, Asian coleslaw, Anaheim pepper charred corn salsa topped with Tuso’s white sauce and wrapped in flour tortillas

That just sounded good. And it was perhaps the best thing I’ve ever tasted—not counting chocolate. I flung off that cilantro garnish, but there was plenty mixed in the coleslaw. The fish was PERFECT. Crunchy, but not greasy at all. They gave me two and I could only eat half of one, but the rest were demolished later.

The whole day was great! Lots of pictures, a couple of hour-long hikes here and there, and some quick sandwiches and fruit for lunch.
