Saturday is for strolling

It’s a beautiful day! We are going to the lake to take on another 14 mile hike. Colorado is only about 8 weeks away and we need to get in more long distances. I’ve got my garmin and fitbit charged, but I forgot to buy another camelbak for my hiking pack. Last time, I ran out of water about 3/4 of the way through and had to bum off Stephen’s hydration tube. That was a barrel of fun since he was usually quite a few steps ahead of me.

So how are the calves and foot? Meh.

The calves are loosening up a bit, but the foot is no better. Classic plantar fasciitis. I honestly thought since I never got it through those first few years of running and making stupid running mistakes, that I avoided that one. Wrong. I’m working on keeping it loose and warmed up. Walking doesn’t bother it. I have no idea if running bothers it, but most of what I’ve read points to probably not WHILE I’m running. After I run is when it might get a lot worse. The main tip on everything I’ve read said to tackle it early. So, I have been. Ice, stretching, warming it up before getting out of bed (when it makes itself CLEARLY known), and more stretches. We will see how today goes. I’m putting my orthotics in my trail shoes. I’m wearing my best socks to prevent blisters. And taking a couple…few..naproxen just in case. Yeah, I know. Not good for my liver, but I really don’t care at this point. I’ll be fully hydrated in about two hours.

Happy Saturday!

Hi Katrina I just found your blog via tastespotting and marked it in my favorites. I do crossfit as well, and am looking forward to following your experiences. My biggest reason for doing it is that I have 2 rather large powerful horses that take all of my efforts to ride safely, and the core strength I get from crossfit helps IMMENSELY!

I have become a huge crossfit advocate - it's great to have upper body strength. I work with a trainer once a week and try to repeat the same workout 2 more times before my next session. Looking forward to following your blog.
