Sal & Mookies and Renaissance

IMG_0078

I was right. This place is amazingly good. My first visit wasn’t just a fluke. Today, the place was just opening for lunch, so we had our pick of the tables. One long booth should be big enough to hold the salad, pizza, and dessert…oh yes, there was dessert. Dessert is not the appropriate name, but I’ll get to that later.

Appetizer? Yes please. We had never tried mushroom fries. Now we have and we are believers.

A moment of silence for this. It is REALLY that good.

****I have to give a huge “thank you” to my mother. She asked me if I wanted to get out the little camera and take pictures. Of course I did. I was brave and I got some shots.*****

After much discussion, we decided to pick one of the lunch specials as a canvas and add other stuff to make it just right. I got the whole wheat veggie—olives, mushrooms, red peppers with the red sauce and added beef.

But I was really curious about the salad dressing. This stuff has been on my mind since November. I ordered the spring greens with their “house” dressing. They call it a “green goddess/ranch”. I have to get this recipe.

I ate all of the salad and most of the pizza. But I needed to save room for….pecan pie.

I asked about the dressing and they do sell it by the cup or the pint. I’ll be back to MS soon and I may just have to stop by on the way home and grab a pint. I love love love this dressing.

Obviously, we felt like rolling out of Sal’s so we headed to Ridgeland to the Renaissance shopping center. This is a neat little shopping center with cobblestone streets, huge fountains, a center clock tower, and Williams Sonoma. My kind of place.

I wanted to get a matching bowl for my Frankie bowl and I found it rather quickly at Anthropologie

Then, off to Willie Sonomy. I have said before that I want to get my hands busy this summer with baking bread. I need a bread loaf pan. I found the perfect one! Thanks, Mom!

Since Barnes and Noble was close by, I wanted to see if I could find the Julia Child cookbook. The official name is Mastering the Art of French Cooking. I found it! I have no desire to cook my way through like a certain character from Julie & Julia, but I would like to see if I can make some of these famous recipes. Healthy? Doubtful considering her penchant for butter, but any good cook can lighten things up or just enjoy the occasional treats from a cooking master. I’ll be doing both.

Grandma came through with a fabulous healthy dinner. She had my favorites include the mac and cheese. I don’t think I have ever been to her house when this WASN’T on the table.

I had this, peas, rutabagas, and roasted pork loin. This was sooooo good.

And Grandma found a sugar free chocolate silk pie recipe. This was very rich tasting and smooth. The key was greek yogurt!

Tomorrow is the big day. 34.

I’m not dreading it as bad. Good food, family, and a little shopping all went a long way to perking me up about being a year older.
