Back to school!!

6 days before the kids walked in.

And the day before 22 little ones walked in.

Tables for 24, a reading table in the back for 6, a carpet area for as many as I can cram is to the right.

room5

Carpet area for morning meeting, read alouds, and many lessons in whole group format. This year’s first day stories include the usual Kissing Hand, Chicka Chicka Boom Boom, Mrs. Wishy Washy with her fashionable house slippers. I also decided to read Moose’s Loose Tooth because one of my students is SO EXCITED about her first loose tooth.

A few of the gazillion books on the red shelves.

I must have a clean desk on the first day. It might not be this clean again until day 182.

room9

10 years of being married to a teacher, Stephen knows how to brighten a very hectic time.

room8

Reading group area, computers, math blocks, and writing tubs.

room7

Professional library. Well, maybe half of them. The rest are at home, by the tub, in the car, in the spare room, in Frankie’s bathroom. My dog-eared copy of my favorite book, Reading With Meaning, is in pieces in 3 different rooms. I really need to get a new one, but pay someone to transfer all my notes.

Ready for kids’ art! And I need to find a hole to put the cleaning bucket.

I love the apple theme. It is so cliché’ but I absolutely love it and it lasts into September when we study apples and Johnny Appleseed.  Not to mention, I save money by re-using decorations from year to year.

Looks so bright, colorful, happy - great environment to learn. My youngest of 4 is heading back to college next week.. her classrooms won't look as cheerful haha! Seems like a long, long time since I was a room mother in elementary school:)

Have a great school year. Thanks for your role in educating our young people!
