Telluride 2018

This morning, we loaded up the truck and traveled south to Telluride!

For the next week, depending on the 416 Fire in Durango, we will be camping up above Telluride at the Matterhorn campground. This morning, we ate some granola bars and left the wide open spaces of Crested Butte behind. 2018-06-11 13.22.40

We stopped in Montrose to get some camping supplies and food and find out more information about the wildfires. But check out these keto-friendly snacks I found in the salad part of the store. Cheese bites!

The entire San Juan National Forest was closed. That is a huge developement. That rarely happens. With 2 wildfires within the SJNF and a large part of the forest having dry/dead timber as a result of pine beetle infestation, the director decided to close the entire forest. Our campground is 3 miles from the border of the SJNF.

With deciding to stick to our original plans, we had lunch in Ridegway at our favorite place. The True Grit Cafe. It’s a shrine dedicated to John Wayne. 2018-06-11 12.47.40

I had a triple grilled cheese on gluten free bread with smashed garlic potatoes.

After lunch, we wandered over to the store next door and I walked away with a hat I’ve been searching for ages. I wanted a straw hat with wired edges so I can keep them rolled. Next to ball caps, this is my new favorite hat. 2018-06-11 13.17.23

On the way to our campground, we saw a little smoke towards Durango but the campground was all clear. We stopped at Trout Lake to take in a favorite mountain scene.
