The Toughest Dietbet to date

When Fitfluential presented the Ambassadors with the option of joining the latest Diebet, I jumped at the chance. I’m still slowly losing about 1-2 lbs a week, so why not get paid for it? As I posted earlier, my previous 2 DietBets were very successful. I lost almost double my “goal” percentage and got back double what I paid into it. But this time….things are very different.

1. Next week is my birthday.

Other than the end of year eating holidays, there is no better time for a week (yes week….we have birthday weeks in my family) of treats than my birthday. I want a gluten-free cupcake. I want a crust less cheesecake from the Cheesecake Factory. We are going camping, bike riding, and running for my birthday weekend. Of course I want to roast marshmallows and make s’mores and other camping food favorites. And why shouldn’t I? It’s my birthday!

2. I have my first half-marathon of the year 3 days before the final weigh-in.

Why is this important? I retain half of Denmark’s water supply after a race. I have no idea why. But it takes a few days to return to normal.

3. My goal percentage will take me to a number I haven’t seen in 3 years. And we all know, the closer you get, those last few lbs just will not budge.

But I’m going to do it anyway and that means eating strict Paleo with no grains like corn, potatoes, or rice. All three really increase the inflammation in my joints especially. I’ve also noticed a dramatic increase in sinus congestion after eating rice. I’ll keep the occasional dairy, dark chocolate and wine. If after two weeks I’m not satisfied with my progress, I’m starting Whole 30 again. That framework really clicked with me and I learned so much about how my body reacts with non-gluten grains.

How will I handle my birthday? By eating a baked treat (even if I have to make it myself because gluten-free bakeries are non-existent in Tuscaloosa!) and taking time to enjoy feeling healthier at this birthday than the past 3 where I cried because I was unhappy with how I felt. This year, age really IS just a number!

So, tonight, I submitted my pictures for weigh in. I’m waiting for my confirmation email that my pictures were accepted and tomorrow starts a new week with workouts, food, and SLEEP! Good luck to everyone and it’s not too late to join!
