Sicko

I’m not sure which is worse, showing up to the doctor’s office an hour and a half early because I didn’t change all my clocks, or the wonderful shots wearing off and sinus misery sets in again.

This one is short and sweet because I’m too tired to function well.

When I’m sick, I usually go for comfort junk food like Doritoes and sprite. Mac/cheese with crackers.

This go around, I’m doping up on clean real food.

I had a half eaten rotisserie chicken. While under the effects of a decadron shot—which wires me up to warp energy for a few hours—I decided to make my own chicken broth. It looks easy when Barefoot Contessa does it, why not me?

Just roughly cut some veggies. No need to peel          Throw veggies in pot of water with bird and whole

shallots or garlic or carrots. It all gets strained.           peppercorns and bay leaves.

Simmer on med-high for a couple of hours up to 4 hours. Strain out the vegetables and peelings. Store in jars in fridge or freezer containers.

I used part of this to make a rich potato soup. I took a third of the cooked potatoes and mashed them so I could thicken my soup without much flour.

At some point in the day, I wanted something ice cold for my throat. I had some strawberries that cried out for relief. I decided to boost this smoothie with Amazing Grass Berry supplement. Basically dehydrated fruit and vegetable powder. I added a little protein powder and ice. Frozen throat relief and a little nutrient boost as well. This was so much better than the “magic milk” medicine that I got from the doctor last go around. That stuff made me drool all over myself. At one point, I thought I had bees in my mouth from the numbing action. So not conducive to healing thoughts. I didn’t know whether to spit, wipe my mouth, or just give up and drool on Stephen’s pillow. Smoothie 1—Magic Milk 0.

And last, I wanted vegetables. Basic roasted vegetables.

With a little oil and my favorite new seasoning for this.

This is the first time I’ve taken this approach to nutrition while my body is worn down. It will be interesting to see if there is any difference. I do know that today, I felt lighter and a little more energy even with a raging fever. I have to believe that what I eat has an effect on my immune system for recovery.

Photography project update!

Day 7

My first ornaments of this season. My Grandmother made these for me and gave them to me a little early. I’ve had the box next to my bed and at least once a week, I steal a peek at them. Thursday is the big decorating day for us and I know these will be the first to go on the snowman tree.
