What is CrossFit?

“CrossFit is a strength and conditioning brand that combines weightlifting, sprinting, gymnastics, powerlifting, kettlebell training, plyometrics, rowing, and medicine ball training.CrossFit contends that a healthy, fit person requires proficiency in each of ten general physical skills: cardiovascular/respiratory endurance, stamina, strength, flexibility, power, speed, agility, balance, coordination, and accuracy. It defines fitness as increased work capacity across all these domains and says its program achieves this by provoking neurologic and hormonal adaptations across all metabolic pathways.
CrossFit athletes run, row, jump rope, climb rope and carry odd objects. They frequently move large loads quickly over short distances, and use powerlifting and Olympic weightlifting techniques. CrossFit athletes also use dumbbells, gymnastics rings, pull-up bars, kettlebells, and many bodyweight exercises. CrossFit is used in nearly 2,000 gyms worldwide and by many fire departments, law enforcement agencies, and military organizations including the Canadian Forces, and the Royal Danish Life Guards”

So that’s the wiki definition. What’s the real definition?

Serious training that is the hardest thing I’ve ever attempted to do. And the days when I complete a full workout, I feel like I’m 10 feet tall. It’s that good.

Early morning classes took some getting used to. I do consider myself more of a morning person because I would rather go to bed at 10pm and get up at 4, put on coffee, and finish studying, finishing that term paper, or finish getting the real job homework done before going to work. When I [...]

I love going to my early morning class at the gym. I don’t mind getting up early, shuffling half asleep to throw on clothes, and yawning my face off during the 30 minute drive to class. The Morning Crew is a great group of die hard CF fans who define “determined”. Sometimes, I refer to [...]

About 3 months ago, a girl in our morning Crossfit class mentioned she was working with the Junior League of Tuscaloosa on an upcoming event. She said it would be dragon boat racing. And I immediately thought of this. And this sounded like something I need to do once in my …

The first day back to school after spring break is a L_O_N_G one. It seemed like the day would never end. We had sleepy kids, yawning teachers, and stacks of paperwork a mile high on our desks. We are now in full zoom mode until May 20-whatever when we bid farewell to the school year. [...]

Last night after the workout for today was posted, I actually laughed. The only thing that kept going through my mind was…”a deck of cards is 52…a deck of cards is 52”. Then I got a little excited about it. This one is new to me and it sounded insane. I was looking forward to [...]

After a two week hiatus to immerse myself in the joys of strep throat and sinus infection, I went back to Crossfit. I missed my morning workouts! I knew that I might have a hard time depending on the workout. My lungs are not happy, but neither am I when I’m not running or crossfitting. [...]

This week, I’ve made it to 3 Crossfit workouts and 2 training runs. No wonder I’m sleeping a lot. Membership has been on the rise since the first of year. The rise in popularity can be attributed to several reasons including commercials, Biggest Loser Bob, Crossfit games televised, rise in blogs …
