“CrossFit is a strength and conditioning brand that combines weightlifting, sprinting, gymnastics, powerlifting, kettlebell training, plyometrics, rowing, and medicine ball training.CrossFit contends that a healthy, fit person requires proficiency in each of ten general physical skills: cardiovascular/respiratory endurance, stamina, strength, flexibility, power, speed, agility, balance, coordination, and accuracy. It defines fitness as increased work capacity across all these domains and says its program achieves this by provoking neurologic and hormonal adaptations across all metabolic pathways.
CrossFit athletes run, row, jump rope, climb rope and carry odd objects. They frequently move large loads quickly over short distances, and use powerlifting and Olympic weightlifting techniques. CrossFit athletes also use dumbbells, gymnastics rings, pull-up bars, kettlebells, and many bodyweight exercises. CrossFit is used in nearly 2,000 gyms worldwide and by many fire departments, law enforcement agencies, and military organizations including the Canadian Forces, and the Royal Danish Life Guards”
So that’s the wiki definition. What’s the real definition?
Serious training that is the hardest thing I’ve ever attempted to do. And the days when I complete a full workout, I feel like I’m 10 feet tall. It’s that good.
Main CrossFit website which posts the Workout of the Day (WOD), videos of exercises, skills, and places for people to record their times and photos. You do NOT have to join a CF gym to do CF workouts. Just be smart about your limitations.
No that’s not a half-marathon. That is the first WOD for the Crossfit Games of 2013. Last night, the official first workout was announced and it’s a doozy. Complete as many REPs as possible (AMRAP) in 17 minutes. A round is detailed below. For me, I might get some decent reps, but I would [...]
This is perhaps the most brutal home workout I’ve done. Ever. That includes all the P90x workouts, the Insanity workouts, the marathon training runs on the dreadmill, and clearing wood timber for a building project. And because I had SO MUCH FUN (when I could breath enough to think about it), I’m sharing the workout [...]
Huffington Post, I’m looking at you. I’ll be the bitter one of the group. I have no problems whining about having serious anxiety whenever I go out to eat or other peoples’ homes. Or asking my family to be super vigilant about utensils and pans, potholders, cheese cutters/graters, etc. touching gluten-loaded foods. Or …
In the past few weeks, the new gym has grown more and more each week! The first day, we had medicine balls, PVC pipes, and the bars + plates. Now we have a complete new Rouge pull-up system. No longer do we have to stagger start times so all the monkeys don’t knock each other [...]
Since I’m sicker than the monkey caretaker on Outbreak, I thought I would share workout from 2 weeks ago. It’s been a couple of weeks since we got into the new gym, but here are a couple of pictures from the first morning workout. The new space is fantastic! I’m amazed at how quickly this [...]
This past Saturday was our Crossfit Breast cancer fund raiser, Barbells for Boobs. Our box raised over $1,000 for Mammograms in Action. This program is strictly for funding preventive screenings and tests including biopsies. It is for those who are left out of the parameters of most insurance companies. Many insurance …
There are quite a few characteristics about Crossfit that draw you in and make you want to come back for more. Whether it’s the group dynamic, the gut-wrenching workouts, the daily challenge to make yourself “better than yesterday”, or maybe the quick results that you definitely can see and feel, Crossfit IS the best fit [...]
