What is CrossFit?

“CrossFit is a strength and conditioning brand that combines weightlifting, sprinting, gymnastics, powerlifting, kettlebell training, plyometrics, rowing, and medicine ball training.CrossFit contends that a healthy, fit person requires proficiency in each of ten general physical skills: cardiovascular/respiratory endurance, stamina, strength, flexibility, power, speed, agility, balance, coordination, and accuracy. It defines fitness as increased work capacity across all these domains and says its program achieves this by provoking neurologic and hormonal adaptations across all metabolic pathways.
CrossFit athletes run, row, jump rope, climb rope and carry odd objects. They frequently move large loads quickly over short distances, and use powerlifting and Olympic weightlifting techniques. CrossFit athletes also use dumbbells, gymnastics rings, pull-up bars, kettlebells, and many bodyweight exercises. CrossFit is used in nearly 2,000 gyms worldwide and by many fire departments, law enforcement agencies, and military organizations including the Canadian Forces, and the Royal Danish Life Guards”

So that’s the wiki definition. What’s the real definition?

Serious training that is the hardest thing I’ve ever attempted to do. And the days when I complete a full workout, I feel like I’m 10 feet tall. It’s that good.

Happily drinking the Crossfit Koolaid

February 15, 2012

This week, I’ve made it to 3 Crossfit workouts and 2 training runs. No wonder I’m sleeping a lot. Membership has been on the rise since the first of year. The rise in popularity can be attributed to several reasons including commercials, Biggest Loser Bob, Crossfit games televised, rise in blogs and magazine articles, [...]

It’s Friday!!!! It was a BUSY day, but I didn’t have that wishing my life away feeling like earlier in the week with that dreaded state department monitoring…….did I mention how brutal that interview/interrogation was? In case the vague tone of my post failed to adequately get my meaning across, here’s some visual stimulation of [...]

The day that never ended

February 7, 2012

I got through the day without losing my mind or knocking anybody in the head. It’s a good day. The meeting went as best as it could, I think. We answered the questions and sounded like we knew what we were talking about. Most of the time, we did. A couple of questions were answered [...]

The miles move along slowly.

February 6, 2012

I’m still running. I’m just not posting much about it. I’m still working through the Crossfit Endurance plan for April, May, and June half marathons. I’m doing one short interval, one long interval, and one tempo/”long” run a week along with regular CrossFit strength workouts. Right now, just getting these done are kicking my tail. [...]

Crossfit FAIL

January 31, 2012

I bailed this morning. Why? 2 reasons 1) kidney issues. The headache and stomach crankiness from this morning went to turbo drive kidney pain by lunch. I’m currently patchworking old antibiotics (Kids, don’t try this at home.) and the magical orange pills to get me through until I go see the dr. tomorrow. Fun times. [...]

I can’t feel my arms.

January 25, 2012

It was a rough morning at Crossfit. It looks worse than it was. And believe me, I did some epic whining before this one. Who volunteers for 41 lunges and 49 kettlebell swings?? This girl. And even though it was tough, it wasn’t impossible. And I may not have been able to lift my arms [...]

Crossfit Endurance

January 17, 2012

Staring at a brand new year, I’m feeling anxious to get a clear plan for my running and strength goals this year. Coming down off a great end to 2011 with the marathon, I know I want to get another one next fall. Between now and then, I have several races I hope to complete. [...]
