Big sigh

A few years ago, we began paying a big hefty payment to Sallie Mae each month for my student loans. I spent 5 full years (summers too) and walked away with 2 degrees and they were not cheap.

When we refinanced the house, we found some shenanigans with Sallie Mae. I’ve known for awhile that their customer service and online service is atrocious, but I assumed everything was going along fine. The last quote from them showed a total payoff by this July. In February, we found out that we still had 2 more years. Part of it was my fault for not being way more vigilant with keeping up with what was going on. Stephen decided to yank everything away from SM and put it all in a lower interest bank loan with the same local bank who holds our refinanced mortgage. After several weeks, today we finally signed all the papers and I paid my final payment to Sallie Mae. It was more work getting that loan than the refi on the house, but it was worth it.

After we left the bank, Stephen had to go to work and we needed to eat. We decided on McAllister’s. I guess we have not eaten there since before last April because it was partially damaged in the storms. I mean that the tornado side swiped it. As we were driving down 15th, I had one of those moments of confusion because I was a little lost. I was looking for the trees and the heavily shaded McAllisters. I almost missed it because about the time I remembered there are no more trees or BUILDINGS after the restaurant, I almost missed the drive in. I really hate these moments. It’s been almost a year and I still get confused driving down 15th. I avoid it and that side of Tuscaloosa as much as possible. And I hate that too.

Anyway, dinner was great. I had a smoky jack turkey Panini with fruit.

Off to sleep. It’s been a long day.
